Cooking Class- Cambodia


 In Siem Reap, we took a cooking class at a restaurant called the Paper Tiger Eatery.
It was super fun and we had so much food at the end, we couldn't finish it all!
Our teacher took us to the market down the street to show us the ingredients we would be using.


We had about ten people in our class. For the food, we got to choose one appetizer, one main and we all did the same dessert. We actually did the class at the restaurant so we chose the food off of a small menu.
We got to peel all of our vegetables for the appetizers with this cool peeler. We actually bought one to bring home because it was so good!!!



We all made the things we chose... Nathan made fresh spring rolls and beef lok lak. Parker and my dad worked together. They made fried spring rolls with chicken and fish amok. My mom made green mango salad and chicken amok. I made fried spring rolls with pork and chicken curry. Here are the dishes!!

                We had a great day cooking, eating and meeting new people.  Cambodian food is a lot like thai food in almost every way!   The preparation and the spices were very similar.  My thai curry had more coconut milk than my cambodian curry.  We all found the flavors milder in Cambodia.

The fried spring rolls we made were the best spring rolls we have ever had!

 I definitely recommend this place for a dinner or a cooking class!! Our teacher was really good and taught us many things!

  2. Hey Chelsea! Great post! Did you find the flavours of the meals you cooked in Cambodia significantly different from what you cooked/tasted in Thailand?

Tongariro Crossing - New Zealand North Island

Ummm... can anyone say AMAZING! For those unfamiliar, the Tongariro Crossing is a 20km hike/tramp that takes you into the caldera(s)  of Mt. Ngauruhoe (more famously known as Mt. Doom in Tolkein's Lord Of The Rings trilogy). The mountain lies above Lake Taupo - New Zealand's biggest lake - which makes for a fitting backdrop throughout the 2nd half of the hike. Turangi - not far from Tongariro National Park We holed-up in VRBO/HomeAway a little town called Turangi, close to Tongariro National Park.  Cheryl's wrote a post about Turangi - check it out ! Velika Planina - Slovenia

Velika Planina, in a Nutshell This could have been Heidi's village Ever wish you were Heidi ? Well, it turns out, you can find the backdrop you need for your make-believe at Velika Planina in Slovenia. You can hike (a few hours) or take a cable car up to a high-altitude plain where you will find a village nestled on the lee-side of an ever-present windy peak.  A hearty people live here - a tribe of herdsmen.  They build unique huts, in an ancient way, and allow tourists to explore their space/land. This is not an adrenaline jolt, but it is quaint and unique and undeniably historical.  Come for the views, stay for the peace and quiet. Getting Here The cable car runs fast and saves a lot of time and effort... we'd recommend it You can hike up to this peak from the valley, but it is pretty high at 1600m - a good slog on a service road.   Alternatively, you can take a cable car up from  Kamniška Bistrica .  We did the latter - the kids wanted to 'save the...
